Pre-showing Checklist

Selling your home is indeed a significant milestone, and it’s only natural to want everything to be perfect. To assist you in preparing that your home is in top-notch condition before a showing, here is a pre-showing checklist, which covers everything from the entryway to the bedroom.

Entry

  • Hang coats
  • Neatly organize outdoor gear in baskets or other enclosed storage
  • Windex front door glass inside and out
  • Vacuum entryway rug
  • Sweep floor
  • Dust surfaces

Living Spaces

  • Eliminate clutter
  • Fluff and position throw pillows and blankets
  • Straighten and arrange books or magazines
  • Vacuum rugs and other upholstery as needed
  • Windex glass surfaces
  • Dust remaining surfaces

Office

  • Eliminate personal items

  • No papers should be visible

  • Shut down computers or other devices

  • Remove or lock away valuables (make sure cords are hidden away neatly)

  • Eliminate clutter

  • Windex glass surfaces

  • Vacuum rugs or carpet

Kitchen

  • Run garbage disposal
  • Rinse, dry, windex sink and faucet
  • Stainless steel polish appliances
  • Wipe counters
  • Spot clean fronts of cabinets
  • Clean stove top – no crumbs or drips
  • Wipe out inside of microwave
  • Eliminate clutter from countertops
  • Remove old food from refrigerator
  • Run dishwasher
  • Take garbage out
  • Dust ledges
  • Sweep floor

Bedroom

  • Eliminate clutter and laundry
  • Neatly make bed
  • Fluff and position throw pillows and blankets
  • Tidy closet (eliminate unused hangers, make sure clothes are folded and floor space is clear)
  • Vacuum rugs or carpet as needed
  • Windex glass surfaces and mirrors
  • Dust remaining surfaces

Bathroom

  • Empty garbage can
  • Wipe down sink and faucet
  • Windex mirror
  • Windex shower glass
  • Disinfect toilet
  • Wipe down countertop
  • All personal care products should be out of sight
  • Dust towel bars and ledges
  • Make sure towels are folded or displayed nicely

Laundry

  • Make sure laundry is put away or visibly tucked away in machines
  • Dust washer and dryer
  • Neatly stack unused laundry baskets and drying racks
  • Straighten household products
  • Wipe down counters
  • Sweep floor

Final Steps

  • Turn on lights
  • Display seller’s property disclosure
  • Leave garage door opener in a prominent place
  • Open window treatments
  • Remove pets
  • Set temperature to 68 degrees+
